It has become a waiting game as there have yet to be any meaningful talks for potential trade candidate Micah Parsons this offseason. According to a report, the Dallas Cowboys are still in the beginning stages of a deal which spells bad news already since the more they wait, the more difficult it becomes to agree to a contract. After Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby received their deals, it doesn’t put the Cowboys in the best position as he might be looking for a significant payday possibly higher than what they’re receiving. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former Penn State product is entering the final year of his contract and him in the infancy stages of contract talks is concerning.

Even though Parsons said he isn’t looking for the biggest deal but something that is fair for him. It may have been good news for the Cowboys but the team shouldn’t take advantage of that, especially when there are already other defensive stars receiving new deals. After extending Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys could face a roadblock and anticipate Parsons to skip mandatory workouts which may signal he could request a trade as feelings always change. Trenton Simpson made things worse for Kyle Van Noy who’s slowing down and Roquan Smith. The only promising young starter they have is Odafe Oweh despite not getting much help from a depleting David Ojabo.

The Ravens struggle with balance on defense and even with a powerful offense, they can’t depend on one side of the ball to win all of their games next season. The recent DeAndre Hopkins signing puts the offense in a good spot but they should add some explosion to their defense. Parsons is the perfect match for what this defense is looking for and even if they take the cap hit, it could be a worthy investment to maximize Lamar Jackson’s MVP window and finally win a Super Bowl.

Los Angeles Chargers

After releasing Joey Bosa, the Los Angeles Chargers could find themselves building a new regime. Khalil Mack might be coming back but there’s no guarantee he will be playing any longer beyond this year. The team trading for Micah Parsons would put Jim Harbaugh in a different boat for a long time. Since they have money to burn, they could fit the billing for the star pass rusher while Harbaugh loves a physical defense which is something that matches the chemistry already if Parsons lands in Los Angeles.

Carolina Panthers

Last season, head coach Dave Canales focused on improving its offense but they finally are making some moves for their defense. The team signing Tershawn Wharton is their first step but they need a capable opposite end of Jadeveon Clowney where Josey Jewell needs additional help. As the NFL Draft is around the corner, there are floating rumors that the Jacksonville Jaguars could put defensive end Travon Walker on the trade block this offseason. According to the report, the Jaguars are beginning a new regime on their roster and if that’s the case, the team trading Walker would make sense despite his production. Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Georgia product was a controversial pick for the Jaguars since star Aidan Hutchinson was still up on the board. Walker did prove everyone wrong after recording double-digit sacks in his three-year career in the league and he isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Most teams who were looking into Maxx Crosby or Myles Garrett didn’t get the chance to pursue them. Baltimore Ravens

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens had a dramatic change in their defense after losing Jadeveon Clowney and Geno Stone. It was on Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy to keep the defense stabilized but it didn’t happen that way. Nobody loves a physical defense more than head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Los Angeles Chargers are making moves on offense but they took a huge hit on their defense after losing Poona Ford. The team did retain Teair Tart but he might not excel the same way if the team doesn’t find some type of upgrade. Walker has the size and fits the billing for this defense and could be a worthy upgrade since the Chargers have money to blow.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Commanders didn’t have much success in their defense despite hiring former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their head coach. The team was expected to make some upgrades on the defensive line but only made a few changes despite releasing Jonathan Allen. Javon Kinlaw is nothing but average and the same can be said about Deatrich Wise. Since the Commanders were aggressive in trading for Laremy Tunsil, the team should trade for someone like Walker to bolster the pass rush.

Dallas Cowboys

For the Cowboys, the defense will look dramatically different too but on a positive note. The team bringing back Dante Fowler Jr. and signing Jack Sanborn should give them enough pass-rush help when Micah Parsons returns on a potential new deal. Since they’re on one-year deals, they should trade for Walker and if he performs well, they could consider giving him a long-term extension.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are not far from Super Bowl contention other than their offensive weapons looking like a mess. However, they did lose a significant man in Tershawn Wharton who was explosive alongside star defensive tackle Chris Jones. The Kansas City Chiefs lost wide receiver and return specialist Mecole Hardman to the Green Bay Packers, and they could turn to current free agent Devin Duvernay to fill his void. While Hardman never played up to his second-round draft capital, the longtime Chief made a name for himself as a returner who could make a few plays at wide receiver when necessary. Serving as the team’s primary punt returner, the Georgia product finished the 2024 season with 20 punt returns for 203 yards and five kick returns for 132 yards. Additionally, he added another 12 receptions for 90 yards in the receiving game as the Chiefs struggled to find reliable wide receivers throughout the season.

Devin Duvernay spent the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he is best known for his time with the Baltimore Ravens. A former third-round pick, Duvernay had his moments as a receiver but became one of the league’s most dangerous returners early in his career. The Texas product earned First-Team All-Pro honors for his work as a returner in 2021 and made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022. While he’s never recaptured that level of dominance, he can still compete for a role on special teams.

Chiefs Could Sign Free Agent Devin Duvernay After Losing Mecole Hardman

As mentioned earlier, Hardman’s biggest contribution to the 2024 Kansas City Chiefs came on special teams. While he was the team’s primary punt returner, he wasn’t the only one to handle that responsibility. Fellow wide receiver in name only Nikko Remigio appeared in five games Hardman missed due to injury, returning 11 punts for 103 yards and a team-high 11 kicks for 295 yards. His return average in both categories fell in line with Hardman’s averages, so perhaps the team believes he can handle full-time responsibilities in 2025.

Perhaps Remigio can win the job in 2025, but anyone who has watched Skyy Moore or Kadarius Toney return punts knows you must have a Plan B for the position. Devin Duvernay spent the 2024 season as Jacksonville’s primary punt returner, and while the free agent couldn’t match his Ravens success, he’s still a competent option who can provide some base-level security as a special teams ace. Of course, this isn’t the only reason to add Duvernay into the mix, as his receiving ability could be useful if injuries strike.

Receiving Game Replacements

Devin Duvernay and Nikko Remigio are both wide receivers who should spend most of their time on special teams, but injuries happen in the NFL. The Chiefs retained Marquise Brown but lost DeAndre Hopkins and might lose Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy for parts of the upcoming season. If that happens, one of these players could be forced into action, and Duvernay is more likely to succeed in an emergency role.

While Devin Duvernay finished the 2024 season with just 11 receptions for 79 yards, the free agent used to be a key depth piece of the Ravens passing attack. In 2022, he recorded a respectable 37 receptions for 407 yards and three touchdowns. Remigio, by comparison, has just two receptions for 48 yards to his name and his college production doesn’t suggest there’s any sort of untapped potential here.

Devin Duvernay shouldn’t break the bank as a free agent, which means the Chiefs can sign him with minimal salary cap implications. With Hardman gone, these two could battle for the primary returner job throughout the offseason.

Despite having one of the deepest wide receiver groups, the Green Bay Packers are signing Mecole Hardman which could signal a Christian Watson trade. According to the breaking news, quarterback Jordan Love is getting another versatile weapon in the receiving corps while the Packers don’t really need a new wide receiver. This could mean the team may at least trade one of the current receivers this offseason, especially after expressing interest in trading for DK Metcalf. However, the Steelers took over and got him in a trade while the Packers and Chargers were pursuing him.

Watson’s future is uncertain as he continues to be in several trade rumors this offseason after suffering a knee injury. The wide receiver might have to wait a little longer for that to happen since he would need to pass a physical but that probably won’t stop a team like the New England Patriots to pursue as they’re the latest team to be a part of the Watson rumors. Originally selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former North Dakota State product is entering the final year of his contract and the outlook of his 2025 season doesn’t look promising. The Packers may want to attempt to trade while they could for at least a late-round draft pick and these two teams could emerge to do it.

Despite signing DeAndre Hopkins, the Baltimore Ravens could use another wide receiver in their department. The team is signing Hopkins on a one-year deal and that tells you that they don’t see a future in him. Baltimore needs to start to think about the afterlife of Hopkins even though he just got there. They’re only bringing him in as depth for the postseason but trading Watson won’t earn hurt even if he’s not ready for full-time duties until the end of next season.

As of this posting, the Ravens only have Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman as the two pass catchers that are “on lock.” Nelson Agholor will probably sign elsewhere but giving Watson a chance wouldn’t change this offense around in the worst way.

Justin Herbert’s New Toy?

The Los Angeles Chargers have surprisingly been on a bargain journey this offseason despite having enough cap space to sign or trade a couple of formidable pass catchers. Justin Herbert got Mike Williams back but as he’s on a one-year deal, he might not be in the team’s long-term plans. This means head coach Jim Harbaugh will probably use the NFL Draft next month to get help for Herbert’s pass offense and if that’s true, it would be a huge blow to his career.

Herbert is in the prime of his career and the Chargers can’t let his talent go to waste. The only set of reliable hands is 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey who lacks size but has the speed to move the chains. Watson won’t be the most exciting trade for the Chargers but it gives Herbert some liberty to pass the ball around without hesitation. He won’t start week 1 but it gives the team some relief in the postseason.

The New Orleans Saints will likely trade the future Hall of Famer Cameron Jordan despite his contract restructure this offseason. According to reports, the Saints reworked Jordan’s deal after having an uncertain future after the 2024 campaign. Jordan wasn’t the only player on the roster who got that new deal but Tyrann Mathieu is coming back on a different contract too. However, the veteran may look like he’s staying but since he’s aging the Saints may wind up trading him either way to see if they can get some draft picks in return.

Even though General Manager Mickey Loomis refuses to rebuild since the Drew Brees-Era, the Saints might have no other choice but to ship him to another team. Originally selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the defensive end isn’t getting any younger and the Super Bowl window is closing on him. The Saints are not in a good place to win a Lombardi Trophy anytime soon so the least the team could do is look into trading him. After losing cornerback Brandon Stephens, the team could look to add someone like Jordan to bring Justin (Nnamdi Madubuike) back to life. Broderick Washington and Travis Jones haven’t done much to open up the holes for Roquan Smith and Kyle Van Noy. Jordan might not have the same speed but he has the experience to be a solid rotational threat.

Los Angeles Chargers

For the Chargers, the team lost Poona Ford after having a phenomenal 2024 season but made up for it by re-signing Teair Tart. No one should expect him to do much now that Ford isn’t around to open up the gaps. Perhaps, since Jim Harbaugh loves to win football games in the trenches, Jordan could fulfill that promise. He isn’t on the elite level anymore but after losing Morgan Fox too, he could be solid depth to get after the quarterback.

Dallas Cowboys

This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys knew they were going to lose a few defensive talents as they’ve already lost Demarcus Lawrence and Jourdan Lewis. The team made up for it by signing Dante Fowler Jr., Jack Sanborn and trading for Kenneth Murray. They have yet to find a capable replacement and while they have faith in Sam Williams’ return, they could add Cameron Jordan for depth to mentor this group. Jordan won’t be perfect but the Cowboys don’t need him to for them to get something out of the defensive pass rusher.

Last offseason, the Carolina Panthers focused on improving its offense for quarterback Bryce Young. This year is different, the team is finally signing a capable defensive line, especially for Derrick Brown’s return. Tershawn Wharton is an excellent addition after missing out on Milton Williams. Jordan working opposite of Brown could give the Panthers a legitimate chance for at least a wild-card round.

The Buffalo Bills star linebacker Matt Milano will take a paycut to no surprise after taking up most of the team’s cap space. According to reports, the team is fixing up Milano’s contract after missing some time the past two seasons as he enters what could be his last season with the Bills. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Boston College product is heading for free agency but the team might want to consider trading him if they don’t see any future in him anymore. Since Milano hasn’t been able to stay healthy, it doesn’t make sense for the Bills to keep him around and they should consider the choice of sending him to a team for a fresh start.

This 2025 season will determine his future with the Buffalo Bills and if he doesn’t perform up to standards, the team will likely let him test free agency. However, it shouldn’t be surprising if they put him on the trade block before the beginning of the season to see if they could get something in return for his services. When healthy, the veteran linebacker has proven he could be a vital edge rusher while recording at least 78 total tackles in a season four times and 10 interceptions in his entire career. The linebacker is in his last year so another team could take a chance on him for one season to determine if he’s worth the long-term risk and these five suitors could do that.

Last offseason, they brought in Bobby Wagner on a one-year and made promising strides where he’s returning again. Even though Dante Fowler Jr. is leaving, they have a bolstering weapon in Frankie Luvu. Milano and Luvu could pair up in the middle to stop the passes in the aerial and it could work out since both linebackers are ball-hawkers.

The same ball-hawking mindset could apply to the Baltimore Ravens too. Kyle Van Noy is entering the final year of his contract and Milano could be a worthwhile replacement. The New Orleans Saints probably have one most promising linebacker units in the league. Pete Werner and Willie Gay along with Demario Davis are three formidable starters. However, Davis aging so they might need someone like Milano for a rotational basis in the defense.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys don’t need a linebacker but they could have someone in the middle if Eric Kendricks doesn’t return. Dallas has yet to extend Micah Parsons but if they do that, they’re in good hands with Dante Fowler Jr. and Jack Sanborn. Milano won’t start but he could be an effective option when the defense plays zone under Matt Eberflus.

Five-time Pro Bowler free agent CJ Mosley intends to play this upcoming season despite his release from the New York Jets this offseason. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the former Baltimore Raven standout is not looking to retire anytime soon as he believes he has an opportunity elsewhere. Originally selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product is a free agent for a second time in his career after spending several years with the Jets and now becomes one of the best available on the market. However, the linebacker had a questionable start in his tenure with New York but he managed to produce high-level consistent seasons while capturing his fifth Pro Bowler nod.

It’s no surprise the Jets are moving on from Mosley as he has two years left on his current deal. After resigning Jermaine Sherwood to a new deal, the Jets are moving on with younger talent and the emergence of quarterback Justin Fields means the team is heading in a different direction. Meanwhile, there hasn’t been much of an active market for Mosley which is a bit surprising but the free agency has quiet as well. There are still high-level veteran players on the market but these five teams could bank a chance on the All-Pro.

Mosley might be slowing down but he knows John Harbaugh and what they’re looking for.

If anyone can bring out the best in Mosley, it’s head coach Jim Harbaugh. The team brought back Khalil Mack on a one-year deal but after cutting Joey Bosa, they need a capable upgrade to provide some relief. Mosley isn’t the long-term answer for the Chargers but since Harbaugh is old-fashioned, the team could use the veteran for as long as they can.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders constructed themselves a fast pass-rushing defense with the additions of Dante Fowler Jr. and Bobby Wagner. However, since Wagner is the only captain who’s returning to this team, the Commanders will need to search for a replacement since they lost Fowler to the Cowboys. Mosley won’t put over five sacks but this roster is capable of bringing out the best in him after bringing something out of Wagner last year that no one has seen before.

Speaking of the Dallas Cowboys, free-agent Eric Kendricks is still available on the market so it’s surprising the team isn’t looking into him. However, after signing Jack Sanborn and Fowler, the Cowboys are in good hands in the pass rush. There’s no such thing as too many linebackers even though Micah Parsons is waiting for a new deal the team should bring on Mosley for one year to serve as a rotational edge rusher.

The offense doesn’t look promising for the New Orleans Saints this upcoming 2025 season. This means the team will probably continue to maximize their chances to win football games. The Chicago Bears are bringing free agent Mecole Hardman for a visit this week but he should receive interest from more teams. According to reports, the Bears are looking for a new wideout for Caleb Williams’ offense, and to no surprise former wide receiver, Keenan Allen will likely leave for a new team as he’s also still available on the market. Hardman isn’t the best available wideout but he’s a journeyman that’s only dependable as a depth fill for any offense looking for additional help in the aerial attack. After signing Olamide Zaccheaus, the Bears are solidifying the passing game as the team is far from over of adding talent to ensure Williams has the tools to lead Chicago, especially since establishing a new offensive line.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Hardman left for the New York Jets in 2023 before the Chiefs decided to trade for him that same year to improve the passing game for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Hardman was a reliable playmaker in the postseason despite having a rough regular season so it seems like he was always the temporary weapon for the Chiefs. However, he made great strides in catching the game-winning touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers known as the “Super Bowl Hero” during that season. Hardman won’t earn a starting opportunity but he’s worthy to take a look at from the Chargers, Ravens this offseason.

It’s time for the Chargers to get as much talent for quarterback Justin Herbert while he’s thriving in the pocket but after just adding Mike Williams, it seems like the team is taking the cheap route again. Despite the team having enough cap space to compensate the best receiver in free agency, there hasn’t been any word on anything other than attempting to trade for DK Metcalf who eventually went to join the Steelers.

Mecole Hardman might not be another explosive weapon on the market but it gives Herbert the liberty to throw around the football more than they would like. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey was the only set of reliable hands as Quentin Johnston has yet to prove he’s dependable. The team lost Joshua Palmer but Williams and Hardman with their size could give Herbert a capable offense to throw in the deep routes. Hardman might not be a superstar but he could fight for the third spot behind Williams and McConkey.

Additional Baltimore Firepower

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are shaping up for what could be a promising 2025 season this year. After signing DeAndre Hopkins to a one-year deal, Lamar Jackson finally has help from a capable receiver other than Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. The Diontae Johnson experience didn’t work out and they’re holding their breath this isn’t the case as they’re confident Hopkins fits into their scheme.

While that happens, they need another replacement for Nelson Agholor since he probably won’t return as he’s still a free agent. Hardman won’t be any different but it gives Jackson a rotational pass catcher in the aerial attack.
