According to reports, the Patriots are trying to find a capable wideout for their offense and they could look to sign Diggs after his visit. New England has yet to find a consistent receiver on its depth chart despite having one of the deepest wide receiver groups in the league. Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas and Javon Baker all make up the team's pass-catching department but none of these options have earned a definitive WR1 spot.

If the Patriots decide to sign Diggs to a contract, it probably won't be the last offensive move for them. Mack Hollins is the most notable wide receiving signing for Drake Maye's new offense while they did try to bring in Chris Godwin but eventually stayed with the Buccaneers for less money. For Bourne, he was in a few trade rumors last year but the team didn't trade him at all it could become a thing now that the Patriots have a new head coach. Mike Vrabel probably won't be keeping the same offense for Maye so there should be a few suitors for Bourne if he becomes available on the trade block.

Patriots Free Agent Stefon Diggs Visit Could Signal Kendrick Bourne Trade? - 3 Logical Fits

Possible Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

While the Los Angeles Chargers are rebuilding their running back unit again after signing Najee Harris, the team needs another wide receiver to extend their chances for the playoffs next year. The team failed to meet expectations last year since quarterback Justin Herbert didn't have enough help on offense even though he did thrive in the pocket. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is the only reliable wide receiver on this roster and while he has a bright future, he can't carry this entire offense on his back. The Chargers did enter the 2025 offseason with all of the cap space they need to rebuild the passing-catching unit but it hasn't been failing.

Despite signing Mike Williams, it only gives them temporary relief who is way past his prime in the league. The same can be said about Quentin Johnston but he's way too inconsistent for someone who's entering the third year of his NFL career so the Chargers could wind up releasing him. If the Chargers want to take over the AFC, they need to do everything in their power to sign or trade for the best pass catcher. While Bourne isn't too special himself, he's a significant upgrade for Herbert's offense that could be a worthy fit behind McConkey and Williams.

Carolina Panthers

For the Panthers, it's going to be interesting how quarterback Bryce Young develops. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are two promising but unproven playmakers who have a lot of games to be a deciding factor for Young's potential. If Head Coach Dave Canales wants to avoid another bench, the team should put Young in the best position with more experienced pass catchers. Bourne won't win every possession but it's an upgrade from Adam Thielen who will likely retire after this season.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs face an interesting dilemma this upcoming season too. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been struggling all season long last year with inadequate receivers and it might turn out worst this upcoming season before it gets better. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy could face future suspensions while they were only able to retain Marquise Brown despite losing DeAndre Hopkins. Bourne might not be the starter in this offense but it gives Mahomes a new breath of life if he loses any receivers down the stretch of next season.

How Gardner Minshew’s Addition Will Impact the Kansas City Chiefs’ Game Plan and Transform Their Offensive Strategy https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/20/how-gardner-minshews-addition-to-the-kansas-city-chiefs-will-enhance-quarterback-depth/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/20/how-gardner-minshews-addition-to-the-kansas-city-chiefs-will-enhance-quarterback-depth/#respond Thu, 20 Mar 2025 14:00:19 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=223613 The Kansas City Chiefs' newly signed Gardner Minshew was a former quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders; he joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal contract on March 17, 2025. He started his career when the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL draft. After 2 seasons with the Jaguars, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a backup for two seasons before, in 2023, becoming a starter for the Indianapolis Colts. In 2024, he joined the Raiders before becoming available and eventually signed with the Chiefs in 2025. Here is how he will impact the Chiefs in 2025:

Reinforcing the Quarterback Room

With Las Vegas, he had a 66.3% pass completion rate for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in the 2024 Season. Throughout his career, he has exemplified an ability to perform adequately when called upon, having a passer rating of about 88.5 and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2:1 across his previous teams.

Minshew's addition will immediately reignite the Chiefs' quarterback depth; no doubt, there is uncertainty following Patrick Mahomes, with some kind of unproven talent taking the backup position, Minshew will be a good fit to provide Andy Reid and Matt Nagy (Offensive coordinator) with a backup, considering his experience of operating in NFL offenses effectively.
Schematically, Minshew's will be there to provides backup should Mahomes miss at any instance. While we can't compare him with Mahomes's generational arm talent and brilliance, he has some sort of pattern that aligns with the Chiefs’ offensive philosophy; though not elite, but his mobility is sufficient to carry out the movement-based concept currently brunt in Reid's offense. With a career rushing average of 4.1 yards per carry with rushing touches, there is enough mobility to keep the defense on the rollout and bootleg concept.
While playing for the Philadelphia Eagles under Nick Sirianni, coaches have praised his grasp of offensive concepts and pre-snap advance several times, so from a statistical point of view, it is evident that he historically performed well against aggression, with statistic proven he completed a higher percentage of his passes when competing in extra-rushes games.

Game planning adaptation

The Chief’s addition of Minshew will enhance effective weekly and in-game preparation adjustments. Short-yard Scenarios are another of the key areas in which his addition will influence game planning, too.
He has demonstrated effectiveness in quarterback sneaks and designed runs in tight field situations, boasting a nearly 70 percent conversion rate on third downs throughout his career.
A short-running attempt tells that the Chiefs could deploy him conditionally without exposing Mahomes to unreasonable contact.

With the Chiefs facing many mobile quarterbacks in its division and conference, His mobility, while not compared to some of his contenders, will give a more realistic scout team preparation that is available in the time past. This will allow Steve Spagnuolo (Defensive coordinator) to practice against scramble-drill scenarios, improving their containment approaches against the league's mobile QBs.

From another standpoint, the Chiefs' backup quarterback approach. Under Reid, the team typically has its offense, most notably when the backup QB enters the game, so with Minshew's experience, the offensive staff can maintain more of its core concept in case he needs to play. In his ten consecutive starts for Indianapolis in 2023, he showcased effectiveness with play-action passes, completing 67.3 percent of those attempts for a total of 1,130 yards. This strategy indicates a potential for maintaining continuity in the Chiefs' offensive scheme, even in Mahomes' absence.

Lastly, as we look forward to the season kicking off, Minshew's addition to the Chiefs will be some sort of experience display to watch out for. He could prove to be an essential quest for sustained success, as his familiarity with multiple offensive systems may help his adaptability during high-pressure situations.

According to the report, the Jaguars are beginning a new regime on their roster and if that's the case, the team trading Walker would make sense despite his production. Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Georgia product was a controversial pick for the Jaguars since star Aidan Hutchinson was still up on the board. Walker did prove everyone wrong after recording double-digit sacks in his three-year career in the league and he isn't slowing down anytime soon.

Most teams who were looking into Maxx Crosby or Myles Garrett didn't get the chance to pursue them. Both of them are on new deals now, making Walker a potential trade candidate, especially for the rebuilding Jaguars. After releasing Evan Engram, Josh Reynolds and trading Christian Kirk, the Jaguars are not in the best position for at least a postseason contention so it makes sense to field some trade offers which one source believes they are doing before the NFL Draft. Jacksonville probably won't fit the bill for Walker's production next offseason when he's a free agent so it's best for them to consider trading him to these five teams who could generate interest.

Breaking: NFL Executives Suggest Travon Walker Trade Could Happen - 5 Possible Destinations

Potential Trade Candidates

Baltimore Ravens

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens had a dramatic change in their defense after losing Jadeveon Clowney and Geno Stone. The team wasn't able to make up for it as linebacker Trenton Simpson has been struggling to get anything going for the pass rush. It was on Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy to keep the defense stabilized but it didn't happen that way. The Ravens need one last push for Super Bowl contention and while Walker is still young, he could be the final bonafide piece to help Travis Jones and Broderick Washington in the trenches.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves a physical defense more than head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Los Angeles Chargers are making moves on offense but they took a huge hit on their defense after losing Poona Ford. The team did retain Teair Tart but he might not excel the same way if the team doesn't find some type of upgrade. Walker has the size and fits the billing for this defense and could be a worthy upgrade since the Chargers have money to blow.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Commanders didn't have much success in their defense despite hiring former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their head coach. The team was expected to make some upgrades on the defensive line but only made a few changes despite releasing Jonathan Allen. Javon Kinlaw is nothing but average and the same can be said about Deatrich Wise. Since the Commanders were aggressive in trading for Laremy Tunsil, the team should trade for someone like Walker to bolster the pass rush.

Dallas Cowboys

For the Cowboys, the defense will look dramatically different too but on a positive note. The team bringing back Dante Fowler Jr. and signing Jack Sanborn should give them enough pass-rush help when Micah Parsons returns on a potential new deal. Since they're on one-year deals, they should trade for Walker and if he performs well, they could consider giving him a long-term extension.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are not far from Super Bowl contention other than their offensive weapons looking like a mess. However, they did lose a significant man in Tershawn Wharton who was explosive alongside star defensive tackle Chris Jones. Walker could be the next big-time trade to finally upgrade the defensive trench for Jones.

Chiefs, Chargers Potentially Fighting Over Same Free Agent https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/19/chiefs-chargers-stefon-diggs-free-agent/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/19/chiefs-chargers-stefon-diggs-free-agent/#respond Wed, 19 Mar 2025 19:00:48 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=223475 The first wave of free agency is done, and wide receiver Stefon Diggs is still a free agent. A four-time Pro Bowler, Diggs spent the 2024 season with the Houston Texans and appeared to be in the midst of another strong season. Through the first eight games of the year, the wide receiver recorded 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns. However, Diggs tore his ACL midway through the season, prematurely ending his season and making him one of the most high-risk, high-reward players on the market.

Prior to his injury, Diggs was on pace to reach 1,000 receiving yards for the seventh consecutive season. However, he's also on the wrong side of 30 and is coming off a serious knee injury. Nobody knows how much is left in his tank, but someone will roll the dice on him before the start of the season. Looking across the league, the two best fits could be the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Chiefs, Chargers Could Fight Over Free Agent Stefon Diggs

The Los Angeles Chargers entered the offseason with all the cap space they'd need to get Jim Harbaugh's team to the next level. Following a disappointing early playoff exit, the Chargers rebuilt their run game with running back Najee Harris and Super Bowl champion guard Mekhi Becton. These two should improve an already dangerous rushing attack, but this team needs another receiving weapon.

Second-round pick Ladd McConkey was the only consistent set of hands in 2024, and while the Georgia product seems to be a star in the making, he can't carry the passing attack by himself. Quentin Johnston is far too inconsistent for a regular role, and free agent signee Mike Williams didn't look like he had much left in his tank last year. Stefon Diggs may not be the safest signing in the league, but the free agent offers plenty of upside. Quite frankly, the Chargers must shoot for the moon if they want to overtake a stacked AFC loaded with elite quarterbacks.

Justin Herbert is fantastic, but he can't singlehandedly defeat Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen. Chances are, he'd have to face at least two of those quarterbacks to make the Super Bowl, and Los Angeles doesn't have the offensive firepower to hang with these elite teams. Diggs could be the difference here, as he won't need to be anything more than the second option in this passing attack.

Helping Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs face an interesting offseason. After Patrick Mahomes struggled (by his standards) with a subpar group of pass-catchers, the room might be worse in 2025. While Marquise Brown will return, DeAndre Hopkins is in Baltimore, Rashee Rice is coming off a season-ending knee injury, and both Rice and first-round pick Xavier Worthy could be subject to league discipline. With Travis Kelce also getting older, Mahomes could use a reliable veteran to kick this passing game into gear.

Stefon Diggs has a history of causing off-field troubles, but if any team could handle the free agent, it's the Chiefs. Kansas City is no stranger to colorful personalities inhabiting the locker room, so they should be able to keep Diggs motivated as they chase another Lombardi trophy.

Chiefs Could Target Ravens All-Pro Free Agent After Latest Signing https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/19/chiefs-could-target-devin-duvernay-free-agent-mecole-hardman/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/19/chiefs-could-target-devin-duvernay-free-agent-mecole-hardman/#respond Wed, 19 Mar 2025 16:55:17 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=223472 The Kansas City Chiefs lost wide receiver and return specialist Mecole Hardman to the Green Bay Packers, and they could turn to current free agent Devin Duvernay to fill his void. While Hardman never played up to his second-round draft capital, the longtime Chief made a name for himself as a returner who could make a few plays at wide receiver when necessary. Serving as the team's primary punt returner, the Georgia product finished the 2024 season with 20 punt returns for 203 yards and five kick returns for 132 yards. Additionally, he added another 12 receptions for 90 yards in the receiving game as the Chiefs struggled to find reliable wide receivers throughout the season.

Devin Duvernay spent the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he is best known for his time with the Baltimore Ravens. A former third-round pick, Duvernay had his moments as a receiver but became one of the league's most dangerous returners early in his career. The Texas product earned First-Team All-Pro honors for his work as a returner in 2021 and made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022. While he's never recaptured that level of dominance, he can still compete for a role on special teams.

Chiefs Could Sign Free Agent Devin Duvernay After Losing Mecole Hardman

As mentioned earlier, Hardman's biggest contribution to the 2024 Kansas City Chiefs came on special teams. While he was the team's primary punt returner, he wasn't the only one to handle that responsibility. Fellow wide receiver in name only Nikko Remigio appeared in five games Hardman missed due to injury, returning 11 punts for 103 yards and a team-high 11 kicks for 295 yards. His return average in both categories fell in line with Hardman's averages, so perhaps the team believes he can handle full-time responsibilities in 2025.

Perhaps Remigio can win the job in 2025, but anyone who has watched Skyy Moore or Kadarius Toney return punts knows you must have a Plan B for the position. Devin Duvernay spent the 2024 season as Jacksonville's primary punt returner, and while the free agent couldn't match his Ravens success, he's still a competent option who can provide some base-level security as a special teams ace. Of course, this isn't the only reason to add Duvernay into the mix, as his receiving ability could be useful if injuries strike.

Receiving Game Replacements

Devin Duvernay and Nikko Remigio are both wide receivers who should spend most of their time on special teams, but injuries happen in the NFL. The Chiefs retained Marquise Brown but lost DeAndre Hopkins and might lose Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy for parts of the upcoming season. If that happens, one of these players could be forced into action, and Duvernay is more likely to succeed in an emergency role.

While Devin Duvernay finished the 2024 season with just 11 receptions for 79 yards, the free agent used to be a key depth piece of the Ravens passing attack. In 2022, he recorded a respectable 37 receptions for 407 yards and three touchdowns. Remigio, by comparison, has just two receptions for 48 yards to his name and his college production doesn't suggest there's any sort of untapped potential here.

Devin Duvernay shouldn't break the bank as a free agent, which means the Chiefs can sign him with minimal salary cap implications. With Hardman gone, these two could battle for the primary returner job throughout the offseason.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost wide receiver and return specialist Mecole Hardman to the Green Bay Packers, and they could turn to current free agent Devin Duvernay to fill his void. While Hardman never played up to his second-round draft capital, the longtime Chief made a name for himself as a returner who could make a few plays at wide receiver when necessary. Serving as the team’s primary punt returner, the Georgia product finished the 2024 season with 20 punt returns for 203 yards and five kick returns for 132 yards.

A former third-round pick, Duvernay had his moments as a receiver but became one of the league’s most dangerous returners early in his career. The Texas product earned First-Team All-Pro honors for his work as a returner in 2021 and made the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022. While he’s never recaptured that level of dominance, he can still compete for a role on special teams.

According to a report, Fotu isn't the best defensive lineman available but he still has a lot of upside as a rotational piece. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Utah product didn't have an easy rookie season after being put on the injured reserve with an ankle injury but later was activated. Fotu is no reliable starter and is injury prone but he could be a worthy investment in a team's pass rush.

The NFL Free Agency hasn't been the best this offseason despite talent like Jonathan Allen and Javon Kinlaw being available. Fotu spent the first few years with the Arizona Cardinals before getting a new opportunity with the New York Jets. The defensive tackle had to miss the entire campaign with the Jets in his first tenure with them and to no surprise, the team isn't going to bring him back. Fotu doesn't have a lot of miles in him but these five teams could take a chance on him for what could be his last opportunity in the league if he can't improve.

Potential Destinations

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints already had themselves a potential steal in free agency this offseason after snatching Davon Godchaux. Many could anticipate winning the starting job while Nathan Shepherd could continue to develop. This means the Saints should still be on a bargain hunt considering their salary cap situation. Fotu won't start but he could be a solid rotational defensive lineman.

Baltimore Ravens

For the Ravens, it's never a bad idea for the team to bolster its pass-rushing unit. Last season, the Ravens didn't have the same defense they were hoping for since losing Jadeveon Clowney, Geno Stone and a few veteran talents. While the team is getting younger, the team should add a man like Fotu to salvage the trenches behind Nnamdi Madubuike to provide some relief for Broderick Washington and Travis Jones.

Kansas City Chiefs

The same can be said about the Kansas City Chiefs even though they have one of the best defensive tackles in Chris Jones. The Chiefs did lose Tershawn Wharton which could become very costly if they don't add immediate depth, especially for George Karlaftis. Meanwhile, the team could sign Fotu to get some rotational talent to spare other players breathing room.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers had their vision of improving the offense for quarterback Bryce Young but it's time for the team to do the same for its defense. They've done phenomenal acquiring Tershawn Wharton for Derrick Brown's return but it's never a bad idea to add depth. The Panthers need plenty of it and while Fotu isn't the best talent, he could have an upside in Carolina.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves playing in the trenches more than head coach Jim Harbaugh. After losing Poona Ford, the Chargers should look for another capable lineman to salvage this defense. Fotu won't drastically change the pass rush but he could provide some relief.

According to reports, the Bears are looking for a new wideout for Caleb Williams' offense, and to no surprise former wide receiver, Keenan Allen will likely leave for a new team as he's also still available on the market. Hardman isn't the best available wideout but he's a journeyman that's only dependable as a depth fill for any offense looking for additional help in the aerial attack. After signing Olamide Zaccheaus, the Bears are solidifying the passing game as the team is far from over of adding talent to ensure Williams has the tools to lead Chicago, especially since establishing a new offensive line.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Hardman left for the New York Jets in 2023 before the Chiefs decided to trade for him that same year to improve the passing game for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Hardman was a reliable playmaker in the postseason despite having a rough regular season so it seems like he was always the temporary weapon for the Chiefs. However, he made great strides in catching the game-winning touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers known as the "Super Bowl Hero" during that season. Hardman won't earn a starting opportunity but he's worthy to take a look at from the Chargers, Ravens this offseason.

Chargers, Ravens Could Disrupt Bears Free Agent Mecole Hardman Visit

More Help for Justin Herbert

The 2024 season came to an early end because the team didn't have enough capable offensive weapons to win on the big stage. It's time for the Chargers to get as much talent for quarterback Justin Herbert while he's thriving in the pocket but after just adding Mike Williams, it seems like the team is taking the cheap route again. Despite the team having enough cap space to compensate the best receiver in free agency, there hasn't been any word on anything other than attempting to trade for DK Metcalf who eventually went to join the Steelers.

Mecole Hardman might not be another explosive weapon on the market but it gives Herbert the liberty to throw around the football more than they would like. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey was the only set of reliable hands as Quentin Johnston has yet to prove he's dependable. The team lost Joshua Palmer but Williams and Hardman with their size could give Herbert a capable offense to throw in the deep routes. Hardman might not be a superstar but he could fight for the third spot behind Williams and McConkey.

Additional Baltimore Firepower

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are shaping up for what could be a promising 2025 season this year. After signing DeAndre Hopkins to a one-year deal, Lamar Jackson finally has help from a capable receiver other than Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. The Diontae Johnson experience didn't work out and they're holding their breath this isn't the case as they're confident Hopkins fits into their scheme.

While that happens, they need another replacement for Nelson Agholor since he probably won't return as he's still a free agent. Hardman won't be any different but it gives Jackson a rotational pass catcher in the aerial attack.

“No Deal Imminent” for Dolphins Veteran Free Agent? – 3 Suitors Could Intervene https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/17/no-deal-imminent-for-dolphins-veteran-free-agent-emmanuel-ogbah-3-suitors-could-intervene/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/17/no-deal-imminent-for-dolphins-veteran-free-agent-emmanuel-ogbah-3-suitors-could-intervene/#respond Mon, 17 Mar 2025 21:25:34 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=223259 There is plenty of talent left in free agency while free agent Emmanuel Ogbah is among those players available on the market. According to recent reports, the Dolphins have a deal for the linebacker but there hasn't been any "common ground" on contract talks. Miami wants the pass rusher back with the team but any talks of that happening haven't been gaining traction this offseason. Originally selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Oklahoma State product was cut by the team last February but eventually re-signed a new deal a few months later and now it's a different story this offseason.

Ogbah has the opportunity to test the waters despite being in a starting role last year in place of Shaq Barrett who abruptly made his retirement decision. The pass rusher reuniting with the Miami Dolphins allowed him to post five sacks and 19 pressures in his 2024 campaign which will help his market for any teams that may take a look at him. If it's taking this long to strike a deal, the Dolphins should probably let Ogbah walk in free agency to see what's out there. After drafting Chop Robinson and having Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, the Dolphins have enough talent to execute a dependable defense so this means Ogbah will likely seek other opportunities.

"No Deal Imminent" for Dolphins Veteran Free Agent Emmanuel Ogbah? - 3 Suitors Could Intervene

Possible Next Teams

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs found a way to extend Nick Bolton in a crucial free agency re-signing. Kansas City's defense has a lot of upside but as the team is getting other, it's better to build upon that. Emmanuel Ogbah could be a capable pass rusher for this unit since the Chiefs haven't brought back Josh Uche despite trading for him last year. Ogbah may be aging but it doesn't mean the Chiefs shouldn't sign him.

The team doesn't have plenty of cap space to work with and while Chris Jones is one of the best defensive tackles, the defensive pass rush needs more balance. Ogbah is slowing down but a reunion makes sense since he has the experience to bolster the Chiefs for another Super Bowl run.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, a signing with the Baltimore Ravens makes a little more sense. Trenton Simpson had huge shoes to fill for the loss of veteran Jadeveon Clowney and he hasn't been successful in doing that this past year. Simpson is still learning and while he does that, the team signing Ogbah on a one-year deal makes sense for both sides who want to win. Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh have been struggling to make up for Simpson not producing on the field. The Ravens were able to bring out the best in Clowney and the same could be said about Ogbah.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves playing a hard physical football game than head coach Jim Harbaugh. Khalil Mack is returning for one more season but since cutting Joey Bosa, they need a replacement. Ogbah isn't the fastest but this new duo could help the Chargers back in the AFC Championship Game.

According to a Bleacher Report, the safety is a top 7 "intriguing" athlete known for his ball skills and enticing coverage on the field. Originally selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Utah product always finds himself around the ball more frequently in the aerial attack which could be a useful element for the team's secondaries who play more man-to-man coverage. However, he isn't reliable when it comes to the run so that may be a reason why he could be risky he may have to settle for a backup at this point in his career before taking on a starting job.

The safety may not have the size against the run but he does have the hands to pull in a crucial interception when possible. Despite that, the NFL journey for Blackmon was off to a rocky start as the safety on the reserve list still recovering from his injury. The veteran eventually came back finishing his rookie season with 35 solo tackles, six pass deflections and one interception in 15 games and 14 starts. Following the departure of Malik Hooker, all of the eyeballs were on for Blackmon to pair him with Khari Willis.

Blackmon is still a consistent and versatile piece in the secondary so but he might have to settle for a short-term deal to prove that he could provide some upside for these three teams.

"Intriguing" Colts Free Agent Julian Blackmon Could Receive Interest Soon - 3 Suitors Emerge

Potential Destinations

Baltimore Ravens

Despite releasing Marcus Williams, the Baltimore Ravens have yet to fill that glaring depth hole. The Ravens had one of the worst pass defenses in 2024 but head coach John Harbaugh made it easier by benching Williams for Ar'Darius Washington. Things were on the right track but it wasn't enough to bring home a Super Bowl, the future is bright for the safety unit since Kyle Hamilton is in a good spot to receive an extension. The team dodged a bullet letting Brandon Stephens become a free agent since he didn't perform well himself but someone like Blackmon could make their issues go away.

He might not be able to stop the run but that's why Baltimore still has one of the best pass rushers in the league. Blackmon isn't taking over Washington's job but he could be a key contributor in situational moments on third downs. He isn't getting every play, while it gives Washington more breathing room to grow.

New Orleans Saints

Even though the New Orleans Saints cornerback department took a hit this offseason, the safety unit is in good hands. Justin Reid somehow signed with the Saints despite the salary cap of this team. However, it's not surprising since the organization is refusing to rebuild and their bringing back Derek Carr as their signal-caller is an example of that.

Despite that, the team needs depth and Blackmon could play cornerback. The Saints don't have a capable veteran in their cornerback room. Perhaps, Blackmon could be their juice to regenerate Kool-Aid McKinstry back to life.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the short end of the stick. The team found themselves bringing in a reliable cornerback like Kristian Fulton to help Trent McDuffie since losing L'Jarius Sneed in 2024 to a trade. The Chiefs need to do the same about their safety unit since losing Justin Reid. Blackmon is no Reid but he could be a worthy consolation prize to help Bryan Cook in the aerial attack.

New Orleans Saints

Even though the New Orleans Saints cornerback department took a hit this offseason, the safety unit is in good hands. Justin Reid somehow signed with the Saints despite the salary cap of this team. However, it’s not surprising since the organization is refusing to rebuild and their bringing back Derek Carr as their signal-caller is an example of that.

Despite that, the team needs depth and Blackmon could play cornerback. The Saints don’t have a capable veteran in their cornerback room. Perhaps, Blackmon could be their juice to regenerate Kool-Aid McKinstry back to life.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs are on the short end of the stick. The team found themselves bringing in a reliable cornerback like Kristian Fulton to help Trent McDuffie since losing L’Jarius Sneed in 2024 to a trade. The Chiefs need to do the same about their safety unit since losing Justin Reid. Blackmon is no Reid but he could be a worthy consolation prize to help Bryan Cook in the aerial attack.
