As the NFL Draft is around the corner, there are floating rumors that the Jacksonville Jaguars could put defensive end Travon Walker on the trade block this offseason. According to the report, the Jaguars are beginning a new regime on their roster and if that’s the case, the team trading Walker would make sense despite his production. Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Georgia product was a controversial pick for the Jaguars since star Aidan Hutchinson was still up on the board. It was on Odafe Oweh and Kyle Van Noy to keep the defense stabilized but it didn’t happen that way. Nobody loves a physical defense more than head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Los Angeles Chargers are making moves on offense but they took a huge hit on their defense after losing Poona Ford. The team did retain Teair Tart but he might not excel the same way if the team doesn’t find some type of upgrade. Walker has the size and fits the billing for this defense and could be a worthy upgrade since the Chargers have money to blow.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Commanders didn’t have much success in their defense despite hiring former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their head coach. The team was expected to make some upgrades on the defensive line but only made a few changes despite releasing Jonathan Allen. Javon Kinlaw is nothing but average and the same can be said about Deatrich Wise. Since the Commanders were aggressive in trading for Laremy Tunsil, the team should trade for someone like Walker to bolster the pass rush.

Dallas Cowboys

For the Cowboys, the defense will look dramatically different too but on a positive note. The team bringing back Dante Fowler Jr. and signing Jack Sanborn should give them enough pass-rush help when Micah Parsons returns on a potential new deal. Since they’re on one-year deals, they should trade for Walker and if he performs well, they could consider giving him a long-term extension.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are not far from Super Bowl contention other than their offensive weapons looking like a mess. According to reports, the team is fixing up Milano’s contract after missing some time the past two seasons as he enters what could be his last season with the Bills. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Boston College product is heading for free agency but the team might want to consider trading him if they don’t see any future in him anymore. Since Milano hasn’t been able to stay healthy, it doesn’t make sense for the Bills to keep him around and they should consider the choice of sending him to a team for a fresh start.

This 2025 season will determine his future with the Buffalo Bills and if he doesn’t perform up to standards, the team will likely let him test free agency. However, it shouldn’t be surprising if they put him on the trade block before the beginning of the season to see if they could get something in return for his services. When healthy, the veteran linebacker has proven he could be a vital edge rusher while recording at least 78 total tackles in a season four times and 10 interceptions in his entire career. Matt Milano could revive this pass-rushing unit which was at their peak last season. As long as he stays healthy, he could fulfill the wishes of Jim Harbaugh’s philosophy of winning football games with a physical defense.

Washington Commanders

This trade would be a dream come true for the head coach Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders. Last offseason, they brought in Bobby Wagner on a one-year and made promising strides where he’s returning again. Even though Dante Fowler Jr. is leaving, they have a bolstering weapon in Frankie Luvu. Milano and Luvu could pair up in the middle to stop the passes in the aerial and it could work out since both linebackers are ball-hawkers.

The same ball-hawking mindset could apply to the Baltimore Ravens too. Kyle Van Noy is entering the final year of his contract and Milano could be a worthwhile replacement. Meanwhile, the Cowboys don’t need a linebacker but they could have someone in the middle if Eric Kendricks doesn’t return. Dallas has yet to extend Micah Parsons but if they do that, they’re in good hands with Dante Fowler Jr. and Jack Sanborn. Milano won’t start but he could be an effective option when the defense plays zone under Matt Eberflus.

Five-time Pro Bowler free agent CJ Mosley intends to play this upcoming season despite his release from the New York Jets this offseason. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the former Baltimore Raven standout is not looking to retire anytime soon as he believes he has an opportunity elsewhere. Originally selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product is a free agent for a second time in his career after spending several years with the Jets and now becomes one of the best available on the market. However, the linebacker had a questionable start in his tenure with New York but he managed to produce high-level consistent seasons while capturing his fifth Pro Bowler nod.

It’s no surprise the Jets are moving on from Mosley as he has two years left on his current deal. After resigning Jermaine Sherwood to a new deal, the Jets are moving on with younger talent and the emergence of quarterback Justin Fields means the team is heading in a different direction. Meanwhile, there hasn’t been much of an active market for Mosley which is a bit surprising but the free agency has quiet as well. There are still high-level veteran players on the market but these five teams could bank a chance on the All-Pro.

Last offseason, the Baltimore Ravens didn’t have any luck signing new talent to their defense after losing Jadeveon Clowney and Geno Stone. He didn’t have an astonishing campaign so it’s time for the Ravens to find a capable veteran to provide some relief at least one side of the edge rush opposite of Roquan Smith and Kyle Van Noy. Mosley might be slowing down but he knows John Harbaugh and what they’re looking for.

Los Angeles Chargers

If anyone can bring out the best in Mosley, it’s head coach Jim Harbaugh. The team brought back Khalil Mack on a one-year deal but after cutting Joey Bosa, they need a capable upgrade to provide some relief. Mosley isn’t the long-term answer for the Chargers but since Harbaugh is old-fashioned, the team could use the veteran for as long as they can.

The Washington Commanders constructed themselves a fast pass-rushing defense with the additions of Dante Fowler Jr. and Bobby Wagner. However, since Wagner is the only captain who’s returning to this team, the Commanders will need to search for a replacement since they lost Fowler to the Cowboys. Mosley won’t put over five sacks but this roster is capable of bringing out the best in him after bringing something out of Wagner last year that no one has seen before.

Dallas Cowboys

Speaking of the Dallas Cowboys, free-agent Eric Kendricks is still available on the market so it’s surprising the team isn’t looking into him. However, after signing Jack Sanborn and Fowler, the Cowboys are in good hands in the pass rush. There’s no such thing as too many linebackers even though Micah Parsons is waiting for a new deal the team should bring on Mosley for one year to serve as a rotational edge rusher.

The offense doesn’t look promising for the New Orleans Saints this upcoming 2025 season. This means the team will probably continue to maximize their chances to win football games. Despite the uncertainty, the Cincinnati Bengals got wide receivers Jamarr Chase and Tee Higgins new extensions who now get the chance to stay with the team for the foreseeable future. According to the breaking news, the Bengals just gave monster contract extensions for Chase and Higgins, which is a win for Joe Burrow’s passing offense but it doesn’t look promising for other athletes they need to pay. However, the Bengals are working on a new deal for Trey Hendrickson who requested a trade earlier this offseason, but he wasn’t the only one.

Linebacker Germaine Pratt was another defensive piece that put in a request for a trade and it’s looking more apparent that will happen. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former NC State product enters the final year of his three-year contract so he isn’t waiting around until next offseason. With that, the Bengals should make it a priority to trade him as he has a lot of upside. The Washington Commanders lost Dante Fowler Jr. back to the Cowboys after putting in more than 10 sacks in 2024. Jayden Daniels has a capable pass game with the trade of Deebo Samuel so it’s time to add formidable talent for the foreseeable future and that could be trading for Pratt.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the Saints found a way to afford at least a high-level defensive talent in Justin Reid this offseason. If they can do that, it’s possible general manager Mickey Loomis can find a way to get creative since he already doesn’t want to rebuild a new team since 2020. DeMario Davis has an uncertain future this offseason and if they trade for Pratt, the team should be in good hands with at least three-headed monsters of Pete Werner, Jaylan Ford and Pratt.

Unlike the Saints, the Los Angeles Chargers have plenty of cap space to facilitate a trade to bolster their defensive pass rush. Head coach Jim Harbaugh loves playing in the trenches and winning football games with a physicality. Pratt could be the perfect fit in this unit to get the best out of Mack for what could be his final season in the league.

Carolina Panthers

Depending on what the Carolina Panthers do with Jadeveon Clowney, the team will need to find another linebacker either way. The Panthers have done phenomenal getting defensive linemen like Tershawn Wharton to help navigate Derrick Brown’s return with another body. However, after the recent Cooper Rush signing with the Baltimore Ravens, there could be some type of interest soon from teams this offseason. While Lance is struggling to find a new opportunity, it might not be the end of his NFL career as several rosters are looking for a new quarterback but Lance may have to settle for a backup job. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former North Dakota State product should be picking up steam in the coming days as long as Aaron Rogers and Russell Wilson sign and pick their teams sooner rather than later.

Lance is no “surefire” starter but he still provides a lot of upside for any team willing to give him a legitimate shot. In 2023, the Dallas Cowboys made the move to trade for him but never really gave him a real opportunity as he stuck around as the third-string quarterback behind Rush for the past two seasons. For the Panthers, the team finally has their faith in quarterback Bryce Young despite benching him earlier last year in favor of Andy Dalton. According to a report, the Dolphins want Campbell while the team hasn’t made any significant changes to their defensive line. This means they “really want” the future Hall of Famer back for what could be his last season in the league. However, the Dolphins were open to letting Campbell join another team last year if Miami didn’t make the playoffs but it didn’t happen that way.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the former Miami product is one of the league’s oldest defensive linemen. Through 17 years of play, he put up 110.5 sacks, 917 tackles, six Pro Bowls and one first-team All-Pro. Campbell has been a fan favorite on every team he has ever gone to but the veteran will have options and at this stage of his career, it might be safe to sign with a team that’s a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Last season, he’s already been proving to other teams he still has at least one more season in him so it shouldn’t be surprising if he decides to sign elsewhere since he’s not getting any younger. Campbell might not be in his prime anymore but the veteran could have one last chance with these five teams.

For the Chiefs, George Karlaftis has yet to be special in this unit while he does have his moments, he needs additional help up front. Defensive Tackle Chris Jones is one of the league’s best defensive linemen but if they want to see more firepower, they need more depth. Campbell could sign a one-year with Kansas City to finally get his ring in the Patrick Mahomes era.

One of the top NFL Free Agents from the Kansas City Chiefs Charles Omenihu is still available on the market. According to a source, remains a top-five talent that the Chiefs have yet to re-sign but it looks like the chances of that happening are slim. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Texas product became a hidden gem for the Chiefs, recording 19.5 sacks, six fumbles and 101 total tackles through six seasons. Kansas City could try to sneak in a bargain deal but due to off-field issues in 2023 and injuries that kept him out of the contest for the majority of the 2024 campaign, the Chiefs might be better off without him.

Omenihu isn’t the best pass rusher in the league but he’s still a worthy rotational defensive lineman piece to get after the quarterback. His price tag might be too rich for the Chiefs and since they’ve already been signing players such as Jerry Tillery as depth in the defensive tackle unit, it seems like they’re going the bargain route. To no surprise, the team did re-sign linebacker Nick Bolton and a few in-home free agents so they don’t have a lot of spending money. After reuniting with former head coach Dan Quinn in the offseason, Dante Fowler made the most of his first season with the Washington Commanders. Playing in 17 games while making seven starts, the veteran finished the season with 10.5 sacks, one interception, 39 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, and 12 quarterback hits. With his help, the Commanders made an unexpected run to the NFC Championship Game but lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dante Fowler originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Florida product made an immediate impact on the defensive line. After recording four sacks as a rookie, Fowler played a crucial part in the “Sacksonville” defense that guided Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t seal the deal, as Tom Brady led a 10-point comeback in the 4th quarter.

Despite the early success, the Jaguars traded Fowler to the Los Angeles Rams following off-field concerns. The edge defender played well in his new home, recording two sacks in the back half of 2018 and 11.5 in 2019. Following the successful season, Dante Fowler signed a three-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons but only played two years with the team. During his Falcons tenure, Fowler recorded 7.5 sacks, 59 tackles, and 16 quarterback hits.

Fowler followed former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn to the Dallas Cowboys. Originally signing a one-year contract, Dante Fowler recorded six sacks during his first year with the team, and the Cowboys rewarded him with another one-year deal. Adam Peters has been very aggressive during free agency as expected. The biggest move so far is acquiring left tackle Laremy Tunsil via trade with the Houston Texans, giving up third and seventh-round picks. Tunsil is arguably one of the best left tackles in the NFL today. Tackle was a weak spot for Washington heading into free agency, but Peters answered with a blockbuster trade. Tunsil will play a major role in protecting quarterback Jayden Daniels’ blindside this season.

The Commanders have also addressed the need for a quality WR2 to Terry McLaurin, which has already been settled. Earlier this month, Washington acquired wideout Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers. Samuel has proven himself to be versatile both out of the backfield and as a pass catcher. Daniels and Samuel should be an exciting quarterback-wide receiver duo in 2025.

The Commanders also made some free-agency moves on the defensive side of things. This week, Washington signed nose tackle Javon Kinlaw, safety Will Harris, and cornerback Jonathan Jones. Although the Kinlaw signing received question marks, Peters knew him well from their time in San Francisco. Perhaps head coach Dan Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. could make him useful on the defensive line. The team also gave 13-year veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner a new deal to remain in the Nation’s Capital.

Washington Commanders Draft Needs

With the No. 29 pick in the NFL Draft, a few positions the Commanders could seek after are offensive tackle, defensive lineman, and defensive back. Peters will have plenty of time to think about Washington’s first round pick in April.

With the acquisition of the veteran left tackle Tunsil, the Commanders could use the No. 29 pick to bolster their offensive line with a right tackle. There are plenty of options, including Ohio State’s Josh Simmons. Washington could also use their first-round pick to upgrade the defensive line. With the departures of Jonathan Allen and Dante Fowler Jr., the team could really use an edge rusher to fill those voids. Maybe Boston College’s Donovan Ezeiruaku could be the one to improve the Commanders’ defense. The team did draft edge rushers like Montez Sweat and Chase Young, but both were traded away in 2023.

Washington also needs someone young to step up in the secondary, which hasn’t exactly worked in the draft lately. Two years ago, the Commanders drafted cornerback Emmanuel Forbes who was a huge disappointment against quality receivers. Forbes was cut by Washington midway through the 2024 season. Safety Jeremy Chinn was a highlight for the Commanders’ defense last season, but now he’s left for the Las Vegas Raiders. Two possible defensive back options for Washington include Georgia’s Malaki Starks and South Carolina’s Nick Emmanwori. Either one of these safeties has the potential a be a quality replacement for Chinn.
