Cam Robinson, Houston Texans, Agree to Contract

After a disappointing finish to the 2023 season, Cam Robinson and the Jacksonville Jaguars entered the 2024 season with postseason aspirations. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, as the team crashed and burned early in the season. This left the organization with no choice but to trade Robinson and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick.

Robinson helped stabilize the offensive line while starting the final 10 games of the regular season. Between the two teams, he started all 17 games while earning a 63.2 PFF grade, the 53rd-best mark out of 81 eligible players. Minnesota made the playoffs with an impressive 14-3 record but couldn't translate that success to the regular season, going one-and-done following a Wild Card loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Cam Robinson originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Alabama product started and appeared in 15 games as a rookie. While he finished with a subpar 52.4 PFF grade, he helped guide the team to the AFC Championship Game during his first year in the pros. Unfortunately, Jacksonville lost their change to go to the Super Bowl after Tom Brady led erased a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit.

After an ACL injury limited Robinson to just two games in 2018, he returned to the field in 2019 and remained an adequate, if unspectacular, starter. Playing out his rookie contract, Cam Robinson spent a season playing on the franchise tag before earning a three-year extension in the 2022 offseason. He spent two and a half of those seasons with the Jaguars before joining the Vikings for the final half of the 2024 season.

Vikings Drop Pivotal Decision Involving Aaron Rodgers Amid Offensive Roster Moves https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/19/vikings-drop-pivotal-decision-involving-aaron-rodgers-amid-offensive-roster-moves/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/19/vikings-drop-pivotal-decision-involving-aaron-rodgers-amid-offensive-roster-moves/#respond Wed, 19 Mar 2025 16:59:42 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=223511 In the land of purple and gold, where Fran Tarkenton once scrambled and Brett Favre’s twilight flickered, the Vikings' Aaron Rodgers decision now etches itself into franchise lore. Picture a chessboard under the icy glare of a Minnesota winter—the Vikings just sacrificed their queen to bet on a pawn. But this pawn wears a crown from Ann Arbor, polished by a national title and raw, unproven ambition.

Baseball has its Shohei Ohtani moments; football has its quarterback gambles. But Minnesota’s latest move—choosing J.J. McCarthy over a four-time MVP—could echo longer than a Metallica riff at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The McCarthy Gamble: A New Era Dawns (One Without Rodgers)

The Vikings' Aaron Rodgers decision wasn’t made in a day. It brewed like Midwestern storm clouds, darkening as calls from Pittsburgh and New York buzzed GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s phone. “The #Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say. The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported. Translation?

The kid who tore his meniscus last August now holds the keys to Valhalla. At Michigan, McCarthy was a maestro of efficiency, threading passes in a run-first symphony. Critics whisper he’s unproven, a “game manager” in a league of gunslingers. But Sam Darnold’s 2024 revival in Minnesota’s system proves this offense isn’t just QB-friendly—it’s a Lazarus pit. Why resurrect Rodgers’ fading arm when McCarthy’s rookie contract glows like a Super Bowl window?

Rodgers, ever the diviner of destiny, eyed Minnesota like Favre once did. But Kevin O’Connell’s playbook favors youth over nostalgia. “Either you want to be a Steeler or you don’t,” Cam Heyward growled, echoing Pittsburgh’s impatience. Meanwhile, the Giants linger like a New York deli line—slow, crowded, and unsure of the order.

The Vikings' Aaron Rodgers decision isn’t just about 2025. It’s a bet that McCarthy’s ceiling outshines Rodgers’ sunset. And if the kid stumbles? Well, Minnesota’s winters have buried brighter hopes.

Tim Jones: The Silent Storm

While Rodgers’ saga drags on like a Monday Night Football overtime, the Vikings quietly bolstered their ranks. And Tim Jones makes an entry here. A name less headline than footnote, but as vital as a kicker in a blizzard. The former Jaguar isn’t here to steal Justin Jefferson’s spotlight. He’s here to dive on fumbles, sprint down coverage units, and carve a role sharper than a Mississippi gumbo recipe.

Jones played 648 special teams snaps in Jacksonville. That’s 648 tackles, blocks, and sprints where glory fades faster than a tailgate bonfire.  Jones’ 17 career catches won’t move fantasy needles, but his grit fits Minnesota’s blue-collar DNA like a well-worn leather glove.

The Jaguars’ loss is the Vikings’ gain—a depth move as pragmatic as a pickup truck in a snowstorm. And while Rodgers’ future dominates ESPN tickers, Jones’ signing whispers a truth: Football isn’t just about stars. It’s about men who chase kicks, not clicks.

The Road Ahead for Rodgers and Minnesota

The Vikings' Aaron Rodgers decision closes one door, but another creaks open. For Rodgers, it’s Steelers black or Giants blue—a choice between legacy and limelight. For McCarthy, it’s the weight of a state’s hopes, heavy as a Lake Superior ice sheet.

And Tim Jones? He’ll lace up, silent and steady, a reminder that football’s soul lives in the grind, not the glamour. Minnesota’s path is set: Youth over yesterday, hunger over hype. Whether it leads to glory or another frozen “almost,” well—that’s why they play the game.

Winter is coming. Let the chess match begin.

5 Teams That Could Sign Recently Released Vikings Lineman https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/18/5-teams-that-could-sign-recently-released-vikings-garrett-bradbury/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/18/5-teams-that-could-sign-recently-released-vikings-garrett-bradbury/#respond Tue, 18 Mar 2025 18:00:18 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=223329 The Minnesota Vikings released former first-round pick Garrett Bradbury, but the longtime starter should have multiple teams interested in his services. While he never lived up to his high draft capital, the North Carolina State product is an adequate starter who could fill in for needy teams across the league. While he's nobody's ideal of a long-term fix at this stage in his career, the following five teams need a center and could look to the veteran for a short-term fix.

5 Teams That Could Sign Garrett Bradbury Following Vikings Release

The Team Fits

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots just lost their longest-tenured player, as the team released David Andrews following an injury-plagued 2024. With the former undrafted free agent likely calling it a career due to injuries, New England now has another empty spot along the league's worst offensive line. Fortunately, the Patriots still have plenty of cap space and should be able to sign Garrett Bradbury after the Vikings release him. While he may not be an All-Pro type of player, he's a clear upgrade on last year's primary starter, Ben Brown.

Los Angeles Chargers

Head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win games with physical play in the trenches, but he'll have a difficult time doing that with his current offensive line. While Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater form a great tackle duo, the interior line needs some work. Bradley Bozeman wasn't an active liability last year, but there is a lot of room for improvement. While the team re-signed the veteran, they should also add some outside competition to see who can best clear holes for new addition Najee Harris.

Atlanta Falcons

Drew Dalman is gone, which means someone needs to snap the ball to Michael Penix and clear rushing lanes for Bijan Robinson. If the season started today, that person would likely be Ryan Neuzil, an adequate backup with positional versatility, but nobody's idea of a starter. Garrett Bradbury is no Drew Dalman, but the veteran could provide adequate protection at the heart of this offensive line while allowing Neuzil to remain as a do-everything backup.

Jacksonville Jaguars

First-year head coach Liam Coen has his work cut out for him. Following the disastrous 2024 season, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator must rebuild this team in his image while remaining competitive in the AFC South. Mitch Morse had a rough season last year, and with the veteran calling it a career, the Jaguars must find a starting-caliber option to protect Trevor Lawrence. Garrett Bradbury might not be the most exciting name out there, but he could be a smart signing once the Vikings officially release him.

Las Vegas Raiders

Pete Carroll is in the desert, which means the Raiders will try to win games with old-school football. Coaches like Carroll believe games are won and lost in the trenches, which means he'll attempt to reinforce the offensive line with starting-caliber veterans like Garrett Bradbury. The NFL Draft does not have much talent at the center position, and the 73-year-old Carroll won't want to waste his later year developing talent that might not pan out in the NFL.

Jordan Mason Trade May Spell End For Vikings Free Agent https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/16/jordan-mason-trade-may-spell-end-for-vikings-free-agent-cam-akers/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/16/jordan-mason-trade-may-spell-end-for-vikings-free-agent-cam-akers/#respond Sun, 16 Mar 2025 20:17:51 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=223102 The Minnesota Vikings trading for running back Jordan Mason likely spells bad news for free agent Cam Akers this offseason. According to the breaking news, the Vikings surprisingly made a big trade despite giving Aaron Jones a new contract. The Vikings sent shockwaves throughout the league and with that, they have two capable backfield pieces to help whoever will take over as quarterback this upcoming Fall. The ground game gets easier for the team but the road is a long one for running backs like Akers who's still available on the market.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product made some strides in his rookie season with the Los Angeles Rams, recording the fourth-most rushing yards by any NFL player in a single game. However, it quickly came falling down as his sophomore campaign didn't pan out tearing his Achilles Tendon while working out. Akers requested a trade shockingly the following year but stuck around finishing the season notching 188 carries for 786 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. The final year with the Rams was slow for the majority of it and that's when the Rams traded him that year to the Vikings in his first stint but went back and forth between Minnesota and Houston.

Akers probably won't earn a starting job in the league anymore but he could be a capable backup for these three teams.

Jordan Mason Trade May Spell End For Vikings Free Agent Cam Akers

Possible Next Teams

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have not figured out a Plan B as they're avoiding another rebuild this offseason. After releasing backup Jamaal Williams, it leaves a glaring hole behind star Alvin Kamara and the ground game for the Saints. Cam Akers isn't going to get every first down but it gives Kamara some breathing room on the sideline while they develop Kendre Miller.

Baltimore Ravens

For the Ravens, the running back room is a tricky situation as far as depth. Derrick Henry will get his contract extension but the team may want to do it before the 2025 season since the price tag will only go up after this season if he performs well. Meanwhile, Keaton Mitchell came back and didn't make much of an impact on Baltimore's run game behind quarterback Lamar Jackson. He's been pretty much of a bust while Justice Hill is a reliable backup in some running moments.

Hill is typically dependable on the dump-off plays and setting up screens so they need another body to fill the competition for Mitchell. Akers might win the job and potentially revive his career behind one of the most ferocious offenses in the league.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers made several moves on defense but they did address the running back position at the last minute in free agency. Rico Dowdle signing a one-year only means they're only putting in temporary replacements until Jonathan Brooks returns in 2026. With that, the Panthers should do a little dissecting of the depth chart and see how he can fare with Akers as two potential runners to assist Chuba Hubbard.

Los Angeles Chargers

The running back room will look completely different from what Jim Harbaugh is looking for. While they got their hard-nosed runner in Najee Harris on a one-year contract, they could use a speedster to replace Gus Edwards after cutting him. Akers might not get most of the snaps but he's a worthy investment since the Chargers look like they're taking the cheap route despite having phenomenal cap space.

However, the Vikings decided they needed to upgrade the interior offensive line with Michigan's J.J. McCarthy set to take over under center. The Vikings signed Ryan Kelly and made Garrett Bradbury expendable, and all signs point toward a quick release. While nobody will likely trade for him at his current $6 million cap hit, he should earn the opportunity to compete for a job with one of the following five teams.

The Vikings signed Ryan Kelly and made Garrett Bradbury expendable, and all signs point toward a quick release. While nobody will likely trade for him at his current $6 million cap hit, he should earn the opportunity to compete for a job with one of the following five teams.

Vikings To Release Garrett Bradbury – 5 Teams Could Sign Him

Top Fits

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots just lost their longest-tenured player, as the team released David Andrews following an injury-plagued 2024. With the former undrafted free agent likely calling it a career due to injuries, New England now has another empty spot along the league’s worst offensive line. Fortunately, the Patriots still have plenty of cap space and should be able to sign Garrett Bradbury after the Vikings release him. While he may not be an All-Pro type of player, he’s a clear upgrade on last year’s primary starter, Ben Brown.

Los Angeles Chargers

Head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win games with physical play in the trenches, but he’ll have a difficult time doing that with his current offensive line. While Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater form a great tackle duo, the interior line needs some work. Bradley Bozeman wasn’t an active liability last year, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

If the season started today, that person would likely be Ryan Neuzil, an adequate backup with positional versatility, but nobody’s idea of a starter.

Coaches like Carroll believe games are won and lost in the trenches, which means he’ll attempt to reinforce the offensive line with starting-caliber veterans like Garrett Bradbury. The NFL Draft does not have much talent at the center position, and the 73-year-old Carroll won’t want to waste his later year developing talent that might not pan out in the NFL.

Latest Rumors On The Future of Four-Time MVP Quarterback https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/13/latest-rumors-on-the-future-of-four-time-mvp-quarterback/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/13/latest-rumors-on-the-future-of-four-time-mvp-quarterback/#respond Thu, 13 Mar 2025 20:41:20 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=222513 Aaron Rodgers is a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame when he retires. Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks ever, consistently displaying pinpoint accuracy and limiting turnovers. However, his last season with the New York Jets did not go as planned. The Jets went 5-12 and are officially moving on from Aaron Rodgers. So, what are the latest rumblings around the league?

Latest Rumors On Aaron Rodgers

There seem to be three teams in the running for Rodgers' services. The Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, and, surprisingly, the Minnesota Vikings are reportedly the three teams in the running. All three of these teams are interested in Rodgers however, the Steelers seem to make the most sense. This is a franchise that is desperate for a quarterback with a roster that is ready to compete. Still, let's take a deeper dive into the potential fit for Rodgers with all three of these teams.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers, on paper, are the best fit for Rodgers. The Steelers just traded for star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. George Pickens remains a good threat on the outside. The defense is elite and carried the team last year. If Aaron Rodgers can return to his prime form, Pittsburgh will become an immediate Super Bowl threat. Quarterback play has held the Steelers back ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired. If Mike Tomlin is given Aaron Rodgers to lead the offense, the sky is the limit. Although Najee Harris left in free agency, this would certainly be a more pass-heavy offense. Rodgers, Metcalf, and Pickens would give opposing secondaries nightmares. With a defense ready to win now, this makes the most sense for Rodgers.

New York Giants

The New York Giants are in desperate need of a quarterback. To address this, they are targeting Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers would be able to stay in New York, and the Giants would finally address their quarterback issue. The problem is the Giants need to rebuild their entire roster. This is a team that is not ready to compete for a Super Bow,l regardless of Rodgers being their quarterback. The Giants were 3-14 last year, and their defense gave up the 12th most points per game last year. This team has a lot of holes outside of Rodgers, and it would be smarter to address these in the draft.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are a shocker here. With Sam Darnold signing with the Seattle Seahawks, it seemed as if J.J. McCarthy would be handed the keys to this offense. However, the Vikings have reportedly been mulling over the possibility of signing Aaron Rodgers. This is a really intriguing move, as the Minnesota offense has a ton of playmakers. Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson are an elite pass-catching trio. These three players all had great seasons with Sam Darnold.

This is easily the most quarterback-friendly situation Aaron Rodgers could have out of these three teams. Kevin O'Connell is a great offensive and quarterback mind. Running back Aaron Jones is back. The offensive line has been upgraded in free agency. Minnesota is just an all-around great situation for any quarterback right now, including Aaron Rodgers. It remains to be seen if the Vikings will pursue Rodgers or roll with J.J. McCarthy.

Smith, a six-time Pro Bowl selection and one-time First-Team All-Pro, spent the entirety of his career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Harrison Smith, Minnesota Vikings, Agree to Contract

Despite playing in his age-35 season, Harrison Smith remained one of the league's better safeties while performing admirably under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Starting and appearing in 16 games, the former first-round pick finished his season with three interceptions, 10 passes defended, one sack, 87 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, one quarterback hit, and a 67.7 PFF grade, the 36th-best mark out of 98 eligible players. Smith helped the Vikings make the playoffs while winning 14 games, but the team ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round.

Harrison Smith originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Selected by the Minnesota Vikings, the Notre Dame product immediately became a crucial piece of the defense, starting all 16 games while recording three interceptions, 10 passes defended, one sack, 104 tackles, one tackle-f0r-loss, two quarterback hits, and an 84.5 PFF grade. He remained a franchise cornerstone but started to earn national acclaim in 2015.

Making the first of his six Pro Bowl appearances, Smith recorded two interceptions, three passes defended, one forced fumble, 1.5 sacks, 66 tackles, and an 85.0 PFF grade in just 13 games. His best season likely came in 2017, when he started all 16 games and finished the season with five interceptions, 12 passes defended, 1.5 sacks, 78 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, three quarterback hits, and a 91.8 PFF grade, the best in the NFL. In addition to the Pro Bowl, the safety also earned First-Team All-Pro honors and finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Since signing his rookie contract, Harrison Smith has appeared in 192 games while making 191 starts. While on the field, the Notre Dame product has recorded 37 interceptions, 96 passes defended, 20.5 sacks, 1,126 tackles, 48 tackles-for-loss, and 43 quarterback hits.

Cooper Kupp Expected To Have Big Market https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/12/cooper-kupp-expected-to-have-big-market/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/12/cooper-kupp-expected-to-have-big-market/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 19:47:12 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=222303 Cooper Kupp already has a Hall of Fame worthy resume with the Los Angeles Rams. Kupp was an absolutely crucial piece of the Rams Super Bowl win in the 2021-2022 season. He won the "triple crown" in that same season, leading the league in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and receiving touchdowns (16). However, Kupp had a bit of a down year for his standards in 2024. This has led to his time in Los Angeles coming to an end. Cooper Kupp is going to have a big market now that he has been released.

Cooper Kupp Expected to Have Big Market

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp will be finding a new home this offseason for the first time after spending his first eight years in the league in Los Angeles. Kupp is going to have a number of suitors once he is released. Which teams could be the best fits for Kupp?

Seattle Seahawks

This offseason has been incredibly busy for the Seattle Seahawks. First off, the team traded starting quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders. Seattle signed former Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold to a 3 year, $100 million dollar deal to replace Smith. The Seahawks also traded star receiver D.K. Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and wideout Tyler Lockett is also leaving the team. Trading for Cooper Kupp makes a lot of sense for the Seahawks. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is an emerging superstar for the franchise at wide receiver. However, there is not much else for new quarterback Sam Darnold to work with. This is where signing Cooper Kupp could come into play. A duo of Smith-Njigba and Kupp would be difficult for opposing defenses, and would make life easier on Sam Darnold in his first season in Seattle.

https://youtu.be/wMfEG0f2NwQ?si=DEkSFQKY6tODGPAT

Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have also had a busy start to free agency. They have made a slew of upgrades on their interior offensive and defensive lines as well as re-signing running back Aaron Jones. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy will take over as the starter. The Vikings are a great fit for Cooper Kupp as he has seen great success in the past with coach Kevin O'Connell. O'Connell was the Rams offensive coordinator when Kupp won the triple crown in 2021. He is a proven elite offensive mind and integrating Kupp into an offense with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson will give opposing defenses nightmares. This will make life very easy on McCarthy in his first season as the starter.

New England Patriots

The Patriots seem to be ready to compete now. They signed Milton Williams to a massive contract, making him the third highest paid defensive tackle. New England should target a wide receiver to pair with second year quarterback Drake Maye. Cooper Kupp is the perfect option. Kupp can run any route and has elite hands, making him a friendly target for quarterbacks. Maye showed a lot of potetnial last season but there was simply not enough help around him. If the Patriots can sign Cooper Kupp it could open up another dimension to this offense.

Minnesota Vikings Seven-Round Mock Draft https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/12/minnesota-vikings-seven-round-mock-draft/ https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2025/03/12/minnesota-vikings-seven-round-mock-draft/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 16:32:51 +0000 https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/?p=222254 The Minnesota Vikings are ushering in a new era. After letting Sam Darnold walk in free agency, the Vikings appear to be fully committed to J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback. Minnesota has been aggressive in supporting their new signal caller, signing two of the top interior offensive linemen on the market in Ryan Kelly and Will Fries. The Vikings have addressed the trenches on defense as well, adding Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave to their ranks. In this mock draft, the Minnesota Vikings address their remaining weaknesses in hopes of picking up where they left off in 2024.

Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft

Round 1, Pick 24: Kelvin Banks Jr., Texas OT

Even after the signings of Will Fries and Ryan Kelly, the Minnesota Vikings' offensive-line reconstruction is incomplete. Blake Brandel is currently set to start at left guard for the Vikings. Brandel, a former sixth-round draft pick, allowed nine sacks and 30 quarterback hurries in 2024. To support J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings may look to replace Brandel with a more refined pass protector.

Kelvin Banks Jr. played left tackle at Texas, but his arm length and power indicate that a transition to guard may be coming at the next level. Banks would complete the Vikings' starting offensive line, a unit that could become one of the league’s best. Behind this group, J.J. McCarthy would be set up for success.

Round 3, Pick 97: Dorian Strong, Virginia Tech CB

Due to last year’s trade for Dallas Turner, the Vikings don’t have a second-round pick. In this mock draft, the Minnesota Vikings use their third-round compensatory pick to target the defensive secondary. Minnesota was able to bring back Byron Murphy Jr. and sign Isaiah Rodgers in free agency, but their cornerback room still lacks depth.

Virginia Tech cornerback Dorian Strong may fall in the draft after a disappointing NFL Combine showing, but he would be a quality addition to Minnesota’s secondary. With five interceptions and 13 pass deflections over the last two years, Strong is highly productive. He is able to play in man or zone schemes, giving Brian Flores flexibility in his usage.

Round 5, Pick 140: Kyle Monangai, Rutgers RB

Aaron Jones is returning for another season in Minnesota, but he’s not the Vikings' long-term answer at running back. At age 30, Jones is likely nearing the end of his career. The Vikings could look to the 2025 NFL Draft to find his eventual replacement.

Kyle Monangai has been the focal point of the Rutgers offense in each of the last two seasons. In both 2023 and 2024, Monangai rushed for over 1,200 yards. Monangai uses his patience and quick burst to consistently find extra yardage in the running game. He would provide solid depth immediately, with the potential to take over as the eventual starter.

Round 5, Pick 161: Upton Stout, Western Kentucky S

With the final pick of this mock draft, the Minnesota Vikings opt to address their depth at safety. Harrison Smith has held down the safety position for years in Minnesota, but it’s time the Vikings sought out a potential successor. While this isn’t a particularly deep safety class, Western Kentucky’s Upton Stout could be worth a swing.

Stout is severely undersized for the position at just 5’8” and 181 pounds. To succeed at the NFL level, he will need to put on significant weight. However, if the Vikings can look past his size, they’ll find a player with the traits to be productive in the league. Stout has great instincts and the athleticism to cover large areas of the field.
