The New England Patriots are bringing in former Buffalo Bill wide receiver Stefon Diggs for a visit which could signal the end for Kendrick Bourne. According to reports, the Patriots are trying to find a capable wideout for their offense and they could look to sign Diggs after his visit. New England has yet to find a consistent receiver on its depth chart despite having one of the deepest wide receiver groups in the league. Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas and Javon Baker all make up the team’s pass-catching department but none of these options have earned a definitive WR1 spot.

If the Patriots decide to sign Diggs to a contract, it probably won’t be the last offensive move for them. Mack Hollins is the most notable wide receiving signing for Drake Maye’s new offense while they did try to bring in Chris Godwin but eventually stayed with the Buccaneers for less money. For Bourne, he was in a few trade rumors last year but the team didn’t trade him at all it could become a thing now that the Patriots have a new head coach. Mike Vrabel probably won’t be keeping the same offense for Maye so there should be a few suitors for Bourne if he becomes available on the trade block.

Los Angeles Chargers

While the Los Angeles Chargers are rebuilding their running back unit again after signing Najee Harris, the team needs another wide receiver to extend their chances for the playoffs next year. The team failed to meet expectations last year since quarterback Justin Herbert didn’t have enough help on offense even though he did thrive in the pocket. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is the only reliable wide receiver on this roster and while he has a bright future, he can’t carry this entire offense on his back. The Chargers did enter the 2025 offseason with all of the cap space they need to rebuild the passing-catching unit but it hasn’t been failing.

Despite signing Mike Williams, it only gives them temporary relief who is way past his prime in the league. The same can be said about Quentin Johnston but he’s way too inconsistent for someone who’s entering the third year of his NFL career so the Chargers could wind up releasing him. If the Chargers want to take over the AFC, they need to do everything in their power to sign or trade for the best pass catcher. While Bourne isn’t too special himself, he’s a significant upgrade for Herbert’s offense that could be a worthy fit behind McConkey and Williams.

Carolina Panthers

For the Panthers, it’s going to be interesting how quarterback Bryce Young develops. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are two promising but unproven playmakers who have a lot of games to be a deciding factor for Young’s potential. If Head Coach Dave Canales wants to avoid another bench, the team should put Young in the best position with more experienced pass catchers. Bourne won’t win every possession but it’s an upgrade from Adam Thielen who will likely retire after this season.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs face an interesting dilemma this upcoming season too. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been struggling all season long last year with inadequate receivers and it might turn out worst this upcoming season before it gets better. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy could face future suspensions while they were only able to retain Marquise Brown despite losing DeAndre Hopkins. Bourne might not be the starter in this offense but it gives Mahomes a new breath of life if he loses any receivers down the stretch of next season.

It has become a waiting game as there have yet to be any meaningful talks for potential trade candidate Micah Parsons this offseason. According to a report, the Dallas Cowboys are still in the beginning stages of a deal which spells bad news already since the more they wait, the more difficult it becomes to agree to a contract. After Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby received their deals, it doesn’t put the Cowboys in the best position as he might be looking for a significant payday possibly higher than what they’re receiving. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former Penn State product is entering the final year of his contract and him in the infancy stages of contract talks is concerning.

Trenton Simpson made things worse for Kyle Van Noy who’s slowing down and Roquan Smith. The only promising young starter they have is Odafe Oweh despite not getting much help from a depleting David Ojabo.

The Ravens struggle with balance on defense and even with a powerful offense, they can’t depend on one side of the ball to win all of their games next season. The recent DeAndre Hopkins signing puts the offense in a good spot but they should add some explosion to their defense. Parsons is the perfect match for what this defense is looking for and even if they take the cap hit, it could be a worthy investment to maximize Lamar Jackson’s MVP window and finally win a Super Bowl.

Los Angeles Chargers

After releasing Joey Bosa, the Los Angeles Chargers could find themselves building a new regime. Khalil Mack might be coming back but there’s no guarantee he will be playing any longer beyond this year. The team trading for Micah Parsons would put Jim Harbaugh in a different boat for a long time. Since they have money to burn, they could fit the billing for the star pass rusher while Harbaugh loves a physical defense which is something that matches the chemistry already if Parsons lands in Los Angeles.

Last season, head coach Dave Canales focused on improving its offense but they finally are making some moves for their defense. The New Orleans Saints will likely trade the future Hall of Famer Cameron Jordan despite his contract restructure this offseason. According to reports, the Saints reworked Jordan’s deal after having an uncertain future after the 2024 campaign. Jordan wasn’t the only player on the roster who got that new deal but Tyrann Mathieu is coming back on a different contract too. However, the veteran may look like he’s staying but since he’s aging the Saints may wind up trading him either way to see if they can get some draft picks in return.

Even though General Manager Mickey Loomis refuses to rebuild since the Drew Brees-Era, the Saints might have no other choice but to ship him to another team. Originally selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the defensive end isn’t getting any younger and the Super Bowl window is closing on him. The Saints are not in a good place to win a Lombardi Trophy anytime soon so the least the team could do is look into trading him. The Baltimore Ravens haven’t made any moves to improve their defensive firepower. After losing cornerback Brandon Stephens, the team could look to add someone like Jordan to bring Justin (Nnamdi Madubuike) back to life. Broderick Washington and Travis Jones haven’t done much to open up the holes for Roquan Smith and Kyle Van Noy. Jordan might not have the same speed but he has the experience to be a solid rotational threat.

For the Chargers, the team lost Poona Ford after having a phenomenal 2024 season but made up for it by re-signing Teair Tart. No one should expect him to do much now that Ford isn’t around to open up the gaps. Perhaps, since Jim Harbaugh loves to win football games in the trenches, Jordan could fulfill that promise. He isn’t on the elite level anymore but after losing Morgan Fox too, he could be solid depth to get after the quarterback.

Dallas Cowboys

This offseason, the Dallas Cowboys knew they were going to lose a few defensive talents as they’ve already lost Demarcus Lawrence and Jourdan Lewis. The team made up for it by signing Dante Fowler Jr., Jack Sanborn and trading for Kenneth Murray. They have yet to find a capable replacement and while they have faith in Sam Williams’ return, they could add Cameron Jordan for depth to mentor this group. Jordan won’t be perfect but the Cowboys don’t need him to for them to get something out of the defensive pass rusher.

Carolina Panthers

Last offseason, the Carolina Panthers focused on improving its offense for quarterback Bryce Young. This year is different, the team is finally signing a capable defensive line, especially for Derrick Brown’s return. Tershawn Wharton is an excellent addition after missing out on Milton Williams. Jordan working opposite of Brown could give the Panthers a legitimate chance for at least a wild-card round.

While the defensive tackle market isn’t the best, free agent Leki Fotu could receive interest from teams soon. According to a report, Fotu isn’t the best defensive lineman available but he still has a lot of upside as a rotational piece. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Utah product didn’t have an easy rookie season after being put on the injured reserve with an ankle injury but later was activated. Fotu is no reliable starter and is injury prone but he could be a worthy investment in a team’s pass rush.

The NFL Free Agency hasn’t been the best this offseason despite talent like Jonathan Allen and Javon Kinlaw being available. Fotu spent the first few years with the Arizona Cardinals before getting a new opportunity with the New York Jets. The defensive tackle had to miss the entire campaign with the Jets in his first tenure with them and to no surprise, the team isn’t going to bring him back. The New Orleans Saints already had themselves a potential steal in free agency this offseason after snatching Davon Godchaux. Fotu won’t start but he could be a solid rotational defensive lineman.

Despite the uncertainty, the Cincinnati Bengals got wide receivers Jamarr Chase and Tee Higgins new extensions who now get the chance to stay with the team for the foreseeable future. According to the breaking news, the Bengals just gave monster contract extensions for Chase and Higgins, which is a win for Joe Burrow’s passing offense but it doesn’t look promising for other athletes they need to pay. However, the Bengals are working on a new deal for Trey Hendrickson who requested a trade earlier this offseason, but he wasn’t the only one.

Linebacker Germaine Pratt was another defensive piece that put in a request for a trade and it’s looking more apparent that will happen. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former NC State product enters the final year of his three-year contract so he isn’t waiting around until next offseason. With that, the Bengals should make it a priority to trade him as he has a lot of upside. Cincinnati has a lot of money left over even with the monster extensions but they’re working on a new deal for Hendrickson who will accumulate most of the salary cap. After recording ninth in total tackles in the league, Pratt should have plenty of trade suitors.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders lost Dante Fowler Jr. back to the Cowboys after putting in more than 10 sacks in 2024. However, they were able to retain veteran Bobby Wagner on another one-year deal but as much as the offense looks promising, the team needs work on defense. Jayden Daniels has a capable pass game with the trade of Deebo Samuel so it’s time to add formidable talent for the foreseeable future and that could be trading for Pratt.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the Saints found a way to afford at least a high-level defensive talent in Justin Reid this offseason. If they can do that, it’s possible general manager Mickey Loomis can find a way to get creative since he already doesn’t want to rebuild a new team since 2020. DeMario Davis has an uncertain future this offseason and if they trade for Pratt, the team should be in good hands with at least three-headed monsters of Pete Werner, Jaylan Ford and Pratt.

Unlike the Saints, the Los Angeles Chargers have plenty of cap space to facilitate a trade to bolster their defensive pass rush. Head coach Jim Harbaugh loves playing in the trenches and winning football games with a physicality. Pratt could be the perfect fit in this unit to get the best out of Mack for what could be his final season in the league.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much luck in the league for quarterbacks as free agent Trey Lance is still available on the market. However, after the recent Cooper Rush signing with the Baltimore Ravens, there could be some type of interest soon from teams this offseason. While Lance is struggling to find a new opportunity, it might not be the end of his NFL career as several rosters are looking for a new quarterback but Lance may have to settle for a backup job. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former North Dakota State product should be picking up steam in the coming days as long as Aaron Rogers and Russell Wilson sign and pick their teams sooner rather than later.

Lance is no “surefire” starter but he still provides a lot of upside for any team willing to give him a legitimate shot. In 2023, the Dallas Cowboys made the move to trade for him but never really gave him a real opportunity as he stuck around as the third-string quarterback behind Rush for the past two seasons. The tools that Lance provides won’t be disappearing anytime soon as the signal-caller isn’t turning mid-age until May. Dalton is returning again as the backup but they might benefit from Lance starting to get them back in the wild card if Young underperforms again.

This might be the best likely scenario for Trey Lance. The New Orleans Saints fans were not happy to hear that quarterback Derek Carr is back. The Minnesota Vikings trading for running back Jordan Mason likely spells bad news for free agent Cam Akers this offseason. According to the breaking news, the Vikings surprisingly made a big trade despite giving Aaron Jones a new contract. The Vikings sent shockwaves throughout the league and with that, they have two capable backfield pieces to help whoever will take over as quarterback this upcoming Fall. The ground game gets easier for the team but the road is a long one for running backs like Akers who’s still available on the market.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product made some strides in his rookie season with the Los Angeles Rams, recording the fourth-most rushing yards by any NFL player in a single game. However, it quickly came falling down as his sophomore campaign didn’t pan out tearing his Achilles Tendon while working out. Akers requested a trade shockingly the following year but stuck around finishing the season notching 188 carries for 786 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. The final year with the Rams was slow for the majority of it and that’s when the Rams traded him that year to the Vikings in his first stint but went back and forth between Minnesota and Houston.

Akers probably won’t earn a starting job in the league anymore but he could be a capable backup for these three teams.

The New Orleans Saints have not figured out a Plan B as they’re avoiding another rebuild this offseason. After releasing backup Jamaal Williams, it leaves a glaring hole behind star Alvin Kamara and the ground game for the Saints. Cam Akers isn’t going to get every first down but it gives Kamara some breathing room on the sideline while they develop Kendre Miller.

Baltimore Ravens

For the Ravens, the running back room is a tricky situation as far as depth. Derrick Henry will get his contract extension but the team may want to do it before the 2025 season since the price tag will only go up after this season if he performs well. Meanwhile, Keaton Mitchell came back and didn’t make much of an impact on Baltimore’s run game behind quarterback Lamar Jackson. He’s been pretty much of a bust while Justice Hill is a reliable backup in some running moments.

Hill is typically dependable on the dump-off plays and setting up screens so they need another body to fill the competition for Mitchell. Akers might win the job and potentially revive his career behind one of the most ferocious offenses in the league.

The Carolina Panthers made several moves on defense but they did address the running back position at the last minute in free agency. Rico Dowdle signing a one-year only means they’re only putting in temporary replacements until Jonathan Brooks returns in 2026. With that, the Panthers should do a little dissecting of the depth chart and see how he can fare with Akers as two potential runners to assist Chuba Hubbard.

According to a report, the running back is struggling to find a new home but as the NFL Draft is next month, it’s possible that Dobbins could be in a uniform sooner rather than later. Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product began his journey with the Baltimore Ravens but didn’t make much of an exploding impact due to injuries. Dobbins hasn’t been able to stay healthy which was a reason why the Ravens let him go along with Gus Edwards.

The running back got another opportunity in Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh’s philosophy of running the football. While he had a lot of bright spots lighting up the field reuniting with Gus Edwards, both of these backfield pieces haven’t been able to stay healthy. Dobbins missed some playing time last year and even though he had some breakout moments, it wasn’t enough for the organization to bring him back. Instead, the Chargers are signing Najee Harris who fits a little more into their offensive scheme. 

Dobbins is still a capable starter in this league but at this point, he might have to settle for a backup role in these five teams next season.

Since signing Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, the team has enough talent to move the ball after losing Rico Dowdle to the Panthers. Many should expect the team to probably draft an offensive lineman which means signing Dobbins on a one-year deal wouldn’t hurt to give the run game three-headed speedsters.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos couldn’t get anything going in their running back unit last season. Quarterback Bo Nix was passing the game than anticipated which makes sense why Javonte Williams left. Denver could look for a new running back for depth while they establish Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin, so the presence of Dobbins could help to be a consistent ball handler.

The NFL Free Agency is far from over as the Buffalo Bills free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas is still available on the market. According to a source, Douglas is still one of the top cornerbacks in the market and he could be an excellent fit for teams that love to play zone. Originally selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former West Virginia product came into the league with the Philadelphia Eagles showing promise as a versatile secondary man but never got the chance to start. Douglas spent some time on three different practice squads during the 2021 season and the cornerback was finally showing signs of life with the Green Bay Packers.

The cornerback recorded a league-best two interception returns for scores that season. However, the veteran wasn’t able to stay healthy despite recording 69 solo tackles, 13 pass deflections, four interceptions, one fumble and one sack in 17 games with 12 starts the following season. Douglas is not the best cornerback in the league but he has a lot of gas in the tank to be a capable disruptor in the aerial attack. He won’t earn a long-term contract with the next team but at best, he’s going to have to earn his stride on a “prove it” deal.

Douglas could be a Marshon Lattimore 2.0 of his own and could fit into this secondary system easily to give it a boost.

Dallas Cowboys

For the Cowboys, they made some aggressive moves, especially losing Jourdan Lewis in free agency. They made up for it by trading for Kaiir Elam to give Trevon Diggs some much-needed depth. DaRon Bland should be explosive this season as long as he stays healthy. However, Douglas’ presence could excel in this unit behind Bland and be a locker room leader.

Carolina Panthers

It’s a new beginning for the Carolina Panthers as they’re bringing back Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson on new contracts. However, it’s never a bad idea to add depth since the secondary unit does lack experience. They were looking for that last offseason from Stephon Gilmore after a free-agent visit but failed to agree to a deal. Douglas may not be Gilmore but he could be a worthy investment for the Panthers pass defense.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Kristian Fulton to give some depth behind Jaylen Watson. However, guys like Joshua Williams and Trent McDuffie could use the backup themselves. Last year, the team lost L’Jarius Sneed so they might as well stock up on cornerbacks.
