Campos Racing Struggles in 2025 F2 Season Opener in Australia

Campos Racing encountered unexpected challenges that hindered their progress, preventing them from achieving their anticipated results at the F2 2025 season opener in Australia.

Campos Racing struggled throughout the Australian weekend

With the start of a new season and a semi-new lineup, Campos Racing had high expectations for the weekend.

The 2024 F2 season saw them finish as runner-ups in both championships, with a promise to return even stronger this season.

For 2025, they opted again for a rookie and a more experienced driver pairing. Both are part of the Red Bull Junior program and are accompanied by high hopes for their performance. However, the season did not begin as anticipated, and the drivers struggled throughout the weekend.

Difficult Positions

Campos Racing faced several challenges starting from the qualifying session, which slowed the team’s work. While the drivers felt comfortable in their cars, technical issues prevented them from maximizing their performance.

Pepe Martì experienced an engine problem during both the free practice and qualifying sessions. Elsewhere, Arvid Lindblad reported software issues that affected his attempt at the fastest lap in qualifying.

As a result, both drivers suffered power loss. This forced them to start from the back of the field, with Lindblad in 14th place and Martì in 16th.

Despite these difficulties, the drivers were determined to showcase the true potential of their car, which the team had worked relentlessly on.

In the Sprint race, both drivers managed to execute well. Due to penalties assessed to some of their competitors, Campos Racing had their drivers starting from 10th and 11th positions.

Martì recovered three positions, finishing in 8th place and earning a point. While this may not have been the result the team had hoped for coming into Australia, it represented a significant boost in confidence for everyone at Campos Racing after the problems encountered on Friday.

Arvid Lindblad finished the Sprint race in 10th place, successfully defending against other competitors. This included fellow Red Bull junior driver Oliver Goethe, who was behind him.

Australia: Missed Opportunity for Campos Racing

The Formula 2 Australia Feature Race was scheduled to start at 11:30, but due to heavy rain, it was initially delayed by almost an hour before being canceled.

This prevented the Campos Racing drivers from recovering additional points. The team were forced to settle with the results of the Sprint Race.

With this, Campos Racing did not meet expectations. Last year, Isack Hadjar won both races but was penalized, ultimately maintaining victory only in the Feature Race. This year, Pepe Martì had a slightly more positive weekend compared to last year, as he left Australia in 2024 with zero points.

More Chances in The Future

Both drivers for Campos Racing praised the work done by the team at the 2025 opener in Australia.

Although it started poorly, both drivers felt comfortable in the car and were disappointed that they were unable to participate in the Feature Race.

This round could have highlighted the difficulties the team has to face this year or marked the beginning of a better understanding of the car and improvements throughout the season.

Only time will tell, and the next race in Bahrain, under different conditions, will provide more answers for the team and its drivers.
