The PGA Tour is one familiar to many veterans with a collective resume second to none. With the heavy leadership presence, there have been some new additions to the field. One rookie in particular being Danny List, a 26-year-old who had his dreams come true in 2018 turning pro. List will be making his PGA Tour debut come Thursday at The Genesis.
Danny List and Involvement in Ghana
List is one of many heavily involved in the community outreach done outside of the sport. Yet, he involves teaching the game he loves to the “youth and golf enthusiasts”. Having a deeper understanding of their love for the game in Ghana, because he once was one of those motivated children. With a hometown of Accra, there is no better insight than what List can bring to the table. Playing under the Australian flag due to his father, his background and love for the game comes from being raised in Ghana. His love for those like himself and the sport in general, propelled him to create the Danny List Foundation.
His foundation is one that gives a chance for many young kids to learn the game of golf, inside and out. List understands his privilege now being a heavy figure in his respective area, also realizing what he can do with his knowledge and resources. Not only does this foundation have numerous programs, they also allow for actual competition between kids. Pushing for the furtherance of a sport in a country that may not have all the needed necessities, is a plus for the sport in a whole. Now with a chance to solidify himself at The Genesis, List can also fuel the ambition back home of many in Ghana.
Chances at The Genesis
With his PGA Tour debut to come in a matter of days, List has gained the backing of prestigious veteran Tiger Woods. Being the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption, something that has been awarded since its creation in 2009. This recipient is someone who embodies the message of diversity within golf. A quick attribute seen within List and his advancement of the game within his home country. Woods has put his utmost confidence in the abilities of List as stated in an interview.
“Danny has shown resilience and determination on the course by earning his DP World Tour card after returning from an injury,” Woods said. “He’s earned this opportunity, and I look forward to seeing Danny tee it up at Torrey.”
This will be more than his debut, but his first real action after a stress fracture. Sidelining him for the majority of the 2023 season, yet making appearances in 2024 to earn his DP World Tour Card. A feat easier said than done, as he finished one of the top 21 players within the Q-School during his time. Earning the exemption as an earned minority represented golfer, List has big shoes to fill in his attempt at a big victory. A big factor for the young star will be to start off efficiently early and confident.
With a lot of big names within the field of play, List can take advantage of some who may not be fueled with the same fire given their seniority. The Genesis Invitational will take place come February 13th – February 16th.
